Nancy G’s Story

Female 8My journey though hell began on Sept 10th 2014 on day 5 of a 10 day script of Ciprofloxacin for a UTI. I was driving to work and my feet were hurting so bad I was crying. Then when I got to work I was very cold and my feet were freezing on the outside but burning on the inside. In the next few days my ears began ringing so loud I thought I would go crazy my gums began burning and stinging my feet were burning and stinging the pain was excruciating. By Oct 12th I could no longer take it and I had to leave work for good. I was diagnosed with Severe Peripheral Neuropathy. I was now a prisoner of my bedroom I was disabled, no longer able to go Scuba Diving with my husband or cook ,clean, or do laundry. I could not enjoy anything and at the age of 53 I thought my life was over. My husband was now my caretaker after working a long day he would have to come home and cook clean do laundry. During this time the pain was so excruciating and terrifying that I often though about suicide the only reason I did not go through with it was my family. I could not make them go through that kind of pain so I suffered in silence. This has been going on for over a year. I have lost all muscle mass and so many teeth have been pulled in the last year I no longer have any back teeth. My crowns fell off and were damaged so I could not have them put back on and I could not afford new ones. I would not wish this high level of pain and stress on anyone in the world. Traditional pain killers would not even touch the pain I had to go on Methadone which was very scary. I lost so much weight I had to stop or there would have been nothing left to me. The withdrawal from Methadone was so intense and scary. At the same time my hands began to burn and sting it was so bad I could hardly hold my phone. Facebook and my phone was my only connection that I had to the outside world.

Hind sight being 20/20 I have now begun to believe I have been poisoned since the 1990’s when I first started taking Cipro. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia, migraines, possible pancreatitis, I had cysts the size of walnuts and they were twisting I was put on morphine for the pain. By the year 2000 I no longer had any of these issues, Then I was given more scripts of Cipro and was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome a neurological disorder in 2008. Since that time I have been given at least 5 scripts of Cipro and each time I went to doctor complaining of severe pain. The doctor thought my CRPS was getting worse he never had any idea it was the Cipro. I trusted the doctors to prescribe medication that would not harm me. I thought they knew if a medicine had a black box warning and should not have EVER been prescribed to me they would not give it to me . My doctor still prescribed Cipro even after the diagnosis of CRPS a neurological disorder.

In closing I would like to say thank you for taking the time to read my story. I would love to see doctors have more information on these drugs. In my opinion they should only be used if needed in a life threating situation. No one should ever have to go through this kind of terrifying experience !
